SPECIAL MENTIONS
Peter Stanley
Died 23rd September 2024. Aged 70. A brilliant Jumps Coach to Jonathon Edwards and Chris Tomlinson amongst many others, mentor in the true sense of the word as well as being my friend.
Geoff Capes
Died 23rd October 2024. Aged 75. An International Shot Putter and coach as well as holding the title of World's Strongest Man. I will continue to save a Disabled Parking space at every BIG for you Geoff!
Paul Dickensen
Died 26th November 2024. Aged 74. An international Hammer Thrower, Coach to Taylor Campbell and many international throwers, BBC announcer who brought so many competitions to life for all of us, BIG announcer and supporter in the early days and my friend for the whole of my athletics life.
Wolfgang Ritzdorf (German HJ Coach)
Died 12th April 2023 Aged 68. The High Jump community is very sad to lose another of it's great mentors today. Wolfgang passed away yesterday after a short illness. He was a friend, colleague and mentor to many of the country's HJ coaches and athletes and will be sorely missed. Sleep well Wolfgang and thank you for your support, advice and friendship.
Dick Fosbury (HJ Legend)
Died 12th March 2023 Age 76. We are very saddened to hear of the death of Dick Fosbury. A man who became a Legend in his own Lifetime. In 2009 some of us had the pleasure to meet this lovely man who talked so humbly about his career. To be able to talk to the man who is responsible for everything we do in High Jump today was incredible. The sport is the poorer now you are no longer here. You will be remembered forever. RIP Dick Fosbury.
